Types of Complaint

There are two types of complaint that an individual can make:

  • A complaint regarding the quality of service issue or operational policing matter
  • A complaint about a member of or members of the Force (police officer, police staff or special constable)

What is a Quality of Service Complaint about the Police?

Generally these complaints do not relate to the actions of an individual member of the Force and are organisational issues. They are, however, very real issues of concern to individuals or communities and Central Scotland Police will make enquiry into them and provide an explanation. These will be dealt with locally.

By way of example, these issues could include your perception that the police

  • are not addressing a particular issue or problem
  • did not deal properly with an incident
  • had taken a long time to respond to your call.

Do I have a complaint about a member of the Force?

A complaint about a member of the Force service is defined as being "A written expression of dissatisfaction about an act or omission by a police Authority, a Joint Police Board, a Police Force, the Authority, the Agency or by a person who at the time of the act or omission was a person serving with the police.". Our complaints process page advises on how these complaints will be dealt with.

If you have a complaint about the actions of an off duty member of the Force, you may report this to the Force as you would any other complaint. The circumstances will be assessed and dealt with as appropriate.
