Wednesday, 19th November 2008
Central Scotland Police has scooped an award for training and people development.
The Force entered the Falkirk Herald Business Awards, which are held annually to celebrate local business and enterprise.
Central Scotland Police entered in the training and employee development category, sponsored by MCA Homes.
Chief Constable Kevin Smith and Chief Inspector Gordon Taylor, from the Force's Learning and Development Unit, attended at the award ceremony on Thursday Nov 2 2008, held in the MacDonald Inchyra Grange Hotel, Grangemouth. The awards were hosted by TV presenter Kaye Adams.
Other finalists in the category were Couper & Co, Forth Ports plc and Glenbervie House Hotel.
The Chief Constable said: "This is a great award to win as it recognises the efforts of Central Scotland Police - a police force rooted firmly within the community it serves - as an organisation which has its people at the heart of all that it does. That in turn brings many benefits to the people who live in our communities.
"Much credit has to go to our Human Resources Department and staff for their efforts in ensuring our employees are allowed to fully develop as individuals at the same time as delivering clear benefit to the force and the public."
The award category recognised the business which has shown pre-eminent commitment to the development and welfare of its people, by encouraging training and employee development throughout the organisation.
Successful organisations in this category must have shown a strategic commitment to learning throughout the organisation, recognising the importance of the continual development of staff skills.
The judging panel were looking for the organisation which was able to show that it appreciated the genuine commitment to and trust in its people by encouraging them in a fulfilling and stimulating working environment.
The winner may well have sought external accreditation of its position by achieving Investors in People or other independently audited quality standards.
The Falkirk Herald award comes hot on the heels of the Force securing the Gold Healthy Working Lives award in recognition of the work done to improve the health and wellbeing of our staff.
