Clacks community cops lead drugs raids
Thursday, 4th March 2010
Community officers in Clackmannanshire led a day of action yesterday (March 3) tackling low-level heroin dealers.
Four addresses in Tullibody and one in Tillicoultry were targeted which resulted in nine people being searched under the Misuse of Drugs Acts.
Tullibody Community Constables Ally Goldie and Cathy Sharkey led the operation.
Constable Goldie said: "The aim of this operation was to disrupt drug dealers and drug users. We acted on information given to us from the community and want to reassure members of the public that we do listen to what they tell us and more importantly we do act on it. It may take time before the public see us taking action, but to get to that stage a lot of work is done behind the scenes. We want to reassure the public to keep coming forward with information. We can't act without their help.
A small amount of cannabis resin, heroin worth £700, over £1600 of money, stolen property and a firearm and ammunition were recovered.
Two women, aged 43 and 23, are due to appear from custody today at Alloa Sheriff Court in connection with drugs offences. A 57-year-old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the cannabis resin recovered.
Inquiries are ongoing to establish the authenticity of the firearm.
Constable Sharkey added: "The operation was a success and the reaction we have had from the communities has been extremely positive. More of these operations will be carried out and we will continue to make Clackmannanshire hostile to those involved in drugs.
