Constable Eric Carbis and his German Shepherd Zak (4) won Second Overall and two other trophies.

The officers and their four-legged friends took part in the competition, which covered all aspects of police dog handling such as tracking and obedience work, which was held at the Scottish Police College in Tulliallan from March 11-13.

Dog Section Sergeant Cameron Shanks said: "This is a big thing for us as George and Eric now go forward to the National Police Dog Trials in Merseyside in April to represent Scotland."

Constable Carbis said: "For two handlers in such a small force to come first and second overall is a great achievement.

"The last twice Zak and I won Best Turned Out Dog and Handler. It is a great achievement to have come second overall and also to have won two other trophies for general police dog work.

"George and I have put a lot of work into both dogs and we are pleased at the outcome."

Chief Constable Andrew Cameron said: "I am absolutely thrilled with the success of Central Scotland Police's dog handlers and their charges. I am sure they will put up a strong show in next month's competition."
