Technical Services

Central Scotland Police require to make best use of information technology to support the delivery of an efficient and effective service to the members of the public it serves. The Technical Services Department's responsibility is to ensure that the IS/IT systems, and all communications networks, are maintained and improved to enable operational and support staff meet that objective.

A senior systems manager, who has a very strong team of skilled support officers, manages the IT Department. The team maintains the Force data network, databases and computer systems.

Several new projects are on going at the time of writing, such as the Introduction of SID (Scottish Intellegence Database), the introduction of WebSTORM, a browser based facility giving access to the STORM Command and Control system. The new Falkirk police office will create a lot of work for the depertment as will the new refurbished Force Control Room and the New Force Contact Centre.

The Force computer network has been recently upgraded, both internally and with links to Other Forces and the rest of the outside world. Digital Microwave network links to Alloa, Grangemouth and Tullibody have been installed. The new Falkirk office will also benefit from this type of link.

The Communications Workshop provides technical support for a number of the Force's communications systems and electronic equipment. This includes repair and maintenance for all aspects of the radio systems, ranging from hilltop sites to hand-held radios, along with telephone systems and CCTV applications.

A radio maintenance service is also provided to the Fire Service and a number of local authority departments.

In addition, the workshop provides supplementary communications facilities at special events and incidents. One example being the 'Big in Falkirk' event held in Callendar Park.
